Fresh Finds - The Produce Issue

Let’s Talk Produce

If there is one corner of this store we are determined to get right, it's this one. Produce is personal. It's the lettuce for tonight's dinner, the apples in your kid's lunch, the potatoes you reach for without even thinking. When we get it right, you barely notice. When we get it wrong, you definitely do. So this month, we rolled up our sleeves and gave the whole section a long, honest look.

Here's where we landed.

The Always-Here List

Some things should never leave you guessing. Lettuce, carrots, apples, potatoes — the reliable backbone of a good kitchen. We've been mapping out exactly what staples we'll always carry, so you can count on their availability every single time you walk in.

We're also adding a few new permanent residents to the produce section: Granny Smith apples (for the bakers and the pucker-lovers among you), fresh mint, fresh dill, ginger paste, and more varieties of Little Potatoes than you can shake a colander at. These have a right to be considered a staple for a well stocked pantry.

A Fond Farewell

Now for the harder part. We need to say goodbye to a few things — and we'll be honest with you about why. We were throwing away far more than we were selling, and there's no community good in a beautiful mango that ends up in the trash.

So we're parting ways with ginger root (the paste has your back), the more exotic fruits like dragon fruit and mangos, and the mushroom line-up we’ve had since we took over the store. If one of these was your reason for coming in, tell us. Genuinely. Unfortunately, we cannot mind read and want to hear about what you keep stocked in your kitchen.

Here for a Season, Not Forever

Some of the best produce is the kind you have to catch while you can. We'll be bringing in seasonal favorites as they come available — fresh turmeric root, blackberries, raspberries, asparagus, and more. When they're here, they're here. When they're gone, well, that's what next year is for. Some of what we need to say goodbye to isn’t goodbye forever, simply becoming available during the best time of the year for its use.

Now We're Cooking: Pre-Cut Veggies & Kits

Here's the part we're genuinely excited about. Starting with this week's truck, we're rolling out pre-cut and diced veggies, plus ready-to-go veggie "kits" — think broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots all set to steam or bake, fajita veggies prepped and waiting, and more on the way. And, we’re putting these together in house, custom made for our community.

The idea is simple: get dinner on the table faster, and help us cut down on produce waste at the same time. Everybody wins, especially you on a Tuesday at 5:45 when nobody wants to chop a single thing. And if there's something specific you'd like us to cut up for you? Just ask. That's what we're here for.

One More Thing (Stay Tuned)

We're also kicking around an idea that’s been sitting and percolating in our brains: produce and meal "boxes," available in limited numbers. It's early days yet — more of a gleam in our eye than a plan on paper — but we wanted you to hear it here first. More to come.

Produce is the section we most want to get right for this community, and we're not going to pretend we've got it all figured out. But we're listening, we're adjusting, and we're committed to stocking the things you actually want. Come see what's fresh. Tell us what’s missing.

We'll see you at The Market.
