Market Almanac - June

A Store in Motion

Summer has arrived in Kansas, and it has arrived with intention. The heat comes in waves now, the kind that rises off the pavement on Main Street by mid-morning and settles into the evening with no particular hurry to leave. The storms have rolled through in that dramatic, wide-sky way that only the prairie can produce — thunder you feel before you hear it, lightning that lights up the whole horizon, and then, just as suddenly, silence and the smell of wet earth and something almost like relief.

June in Little River. There is nothing quite like it.

The Market has not been sitting still. If you've been in recently, you may have noticed things have moved — and you would be right. We are rearranging, re-envisioning, making room for what's coming. New shelf space has opened up, and we are filling it thoughtfully, one good find at a time.

Our Bargain Bin continues to grow and evolve. What started as a simple clearance section has become something more interesting — a rotating mix of deals ranging from 30 to 50 percent off, with some items priced as marked and others at the traditional half price markdown. It rewards the curious shopper. Come dig around. You never quite know what you'll find.

We're also reworking our ramen selection in a big way — more varieties, more brands, and now toppings to go along with them. If you thought ramen was just a college staple, come take another look. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

And for those of you who have been asking for something a little more ready-to-go: we've introduced precut and ready-to-eat fruits and vegetables. Summer is too short and too good to spend all of it at the cutting board.

This community shows up. You always have, and this month you showed up for our family in ways we will not forget. We lost John's mother this June, and your kindness carried us. Thank you.

We'll see you at The Market. You never know what you may find.
